The short version

Leanbean is a caffeine-free capsule built around 3 g a day of glucomannan, the full EFSA satiety dose, with every ingredient disclosed. It's worth considering if short-term fullness before meals is what you want and you'll take 6 capsules a day with a full glass of water every time. The weight-loss evidence for glucomannan is thin, the supporting extracts are small, and the 90-day guarantee only covers the 4-bottle bundle with a fee.

How it claims to work

Built around glucomannan, a viscous soluble fiber that absorbs water and expands in the stomach to promote fullness, paired with B-vitamins, choline, chromium, and plant extracts marketed to support normal metabolism.

The evidence

Glucomannan has human RCT data and an EU/EFSA satiety claim at 3 g/day, though a 2014 meta-analysis found no significant weight loss; the green coffee, acai, and B-vitamin additions are largely preclinical or under-dosed.

Strengths

  • Glucomannan dosed at the full 3 g/day EFSA satiety level, fully disclosed.
  • Caffeine-free.
  • Other actives are disclosed (no hidden blend).

Watch-outs

  • At 3 g/day, glucomannan sits at the very top of the studied range โ€” large glucomannan doses carry a documented risk of throat, esophageal, or GI blockage if not taken with enough water.
  • Six capsules a day, in three pre-meal doses, is a heavy routine.
  • The guarantee only applies to the 4-bottle bundle and carries a fee.

Leanbean: the full review

What it is and who it's for

Leanbean is a 6-capsule-a-day supplement from Ultimate Life Ltd, taken as 2 capsules three times daily with a full glass of water before meals. The headline active is glucomannan, a viscous soluble fiber from the konjac root that absorbs water and expands in the stomach. Around it sit choline, B vitamins, chromium and a few plant extracts marketed to support normal metabolism.

It's caffeine-free, which puts it in the caffeine-free field and makes an evening dose possible. The whole pitch is mechanical fullness: more gel in the stomach, earlier "I'm done."

It suits people who want a maximal, fully disclosed fiber dose in capsule form and will keep a three-times-a-day routine. It's a poor fit if you dislike swallowing pills, if bloating is a problem for you, or if you're buying it as a weight-loss pill on its own.

What the label says

Everything is disclosed, with no hidden blend. The doses that matter against the research:

IngredientPer full 6-capsule dayWhat the research used
Glucomannan3,000 mgAbout 2 to 4 g a day; EFSA satiety level is 3 g in three 1 g doses before meals
Choline82.5 mgEU structure/function claim for normal fat metabolism
Green coffee bean extract40 mgBelow typical clinical-trial doses
Acai berry extract50 mgPreclinical support only

So the glucomannan is dosed at the very top of the studied range, and that's the product's real argument. The green coffee is a fraction of what trials used, the acai is an antioxidant with no human appetite data, and chromium turns up here as a bit player, as it does in most blends; our chromium write-up explains why a nudge is the right expectation. The product record lists 0 mg of caffeine.

What the evidence shows

Glucomannan's short-term satiety case is reasonably good. In a randomized crossover, 16 healthy adults who swapped a pasta preload for konjac-gel noodles cut cumulative energy intake by up to 47% and didn't make up for it at the next meal. A 2025 crossover in 16 adults found a 3-gram glucomannan-based fiber complex taken with a glucose drink produced greater fullness, less desire to eat and a lower insulin response at 45, 75 and 90 minutes, though that product paired glucomannan with a prebiotic fiber and chromium.

The strongest evidence isn't about the scale at all. A meta-analysis of 14 randomized trials (531 people) found glucomannan lowered LDL cholesterol by about 16 mg/dL and total cholesterol by about 19 mg/dL, with a body-weight drop of about 0.79 kg.

On weight, the file is weak. A 2014 meta-analysis of 8 randomized trials found no statistically significant weight loss versus placebo, about 0.22 kg. A 2023 network meta-analysis of 111 supplement trials put glucomannan at about 1.36 kg with low certainty. A 2021 meta-analysis of 67 placebo-controlled trials found 1.27 kg (p=0.04) and noted it fell short of the 2.5 kg threshold the authors set in advance for clinical significance.

European regulators split it carefully: EFSA permits a claim that 3 g a day, in three 1 g doses with water before meals, "contributes to weight loss" only in the context of an energy-restricted diet. Leanbean's dose matches that exactly. Our glucomannan science piece goes through every trial above.

Side effects, tolerability and who should skip it

The dose is also the risk. Because glucomannan swells so aggressively, taking a large dose with too little liquid carries a documented risk of the fiber expanding in the throat or esophagus before it reaches the stomach. Compressed glucomannan tablets were restricted or pulled in several countries for this reason. Capsules taken with a full glass of water, never right before lying down, sidestep most of that concern, but at 3 g a day the water rule matters more than for any other product we track.

The routine side effects are the usual fiber ones: gas, bloating, and loose stools or constipation, worst when you ramp up too fast. We rate the bloat risk high on this product for that reason. Start low and build.

Skip it, or ask your doctor first, if you have swallowing difficulties or a history of esophageal or bowel problems, or if you're pregnant, nursing, on medication, or managing a health condition.

Price and value

$59.99 for 30 servings, about $2.00 a serving. No subscription is offered. There's a 90-day money-back guarantee, but it applies only to the 4-bottle bundle and carries a fee of around $30, so the long guarantee window comes with real fine print.

Per gram of fiber it's expensive. Lipozene delivers 1.5 g of glucomannan for about a dollar a serving, and Metamucil delivers psyllium at 21 cents with a larger evidence base. Our rubric scores Leanbean 14 out of 25: 2 on pathway coverage, 4 on ingredients, 3 on science, 3 on value, 2 on format. The format score is the six-capsule routine.

How to take it and what to expect

Two capsules, three times a day, each dose with a full glass of water before a meal. Don't take a dose dry, and don't take one right before bed. If you're new to viscous fiber, start with one dose a day for the first week and add from there.

Expect fullness, not fat loss. The trials show glucomannan reliably helps people feel fuller and eat less in the moment, and the cholesterol effect is real. Whether that turns into weight change depends on everything else you're doing, and the meta-analyses put the fiber's own contribution between roughly nothing and a pound or so.

How it compares

Against Lipozene, Leanbean doubles the glucomannan, adds disclosed supporting actives, and doubles the price. Same mechanism, same water rule. Against psyllium, glucomannan is more viscous gram for gram but psyllium has the deeper and broader evidence base and costs far less; Metamucil vs Lipozene walks through that research.

In our appetite control rankings Leanbean lands 4th, credited for dosing discipline and marked down for the ceiling on the ingredient itself. The rest of the fiber-forward products are on the fiber and satiety category page, and our methodology explains how dose, tolerability and format are weighed.

Frequently asked questions

Does Leanbean work?

For short-term fullness, the glucomannan evidence is reasonably good: people eat less at a meal and feel fuller. For weight loss on its own, it's thin. Meta-analyses range from no significant difference (about 0.22 kg) to roughly 1.3 kg with low certainty. EFSA allows a weight-loss claim for 3 g a day only inside an energy-restricted diet.

What are the side effects of Leanbean?

Gas, bloating, and loose stools or constipation, worst if you ramp up quickly. The serious one is blockage risk: glucomannan swells fast, so a dose taken with too little water can expand in the throat or esophagus. Always take each dose with a full glass of water and never right before lying down.

How long does Leanbean take to work?

The fullness effect is immediate, within the meal you take it before. The cholesterol effects in the trials showed up over weeks. Any weight change depends on the diet around it rather than the fiber alone.

Does Leanbean have caffeine?

The product record lists 0 mg of caffeine. It does contain 40 mg of green coffee bean extract, which is below the doses used in clinical trials, and we list it as caffeine-free and evening-compatible.

How much does Leanbean cost, and what's the guarantee?

$59.99 for 30 servings, about $2.00 a serving, with no subscription option. The 90-day money-back guarantee applies only to the 4-bottle bundle and carries a fee of about $30.

How do you take Leanbean?

Two capsules three times a day, each with a full glass of water before a meal, for 6 capsules and 3 g of glucomannan daily. Start with fewer doses in the first week if you're new to viscous fiber.
